luci in the sky with diamonds

as lu's birthday approaches, i'm thinking about her party and namely her cake.
for her first bday, the "theme" is going to be the song her name was influenced by which of course is "lucy in the sky with diamonds." i figure i'll have control over the theme of her first birthday and then another when she's 21 or so and finally will think it's cool to be named after a beatles' song.
i made a trial cake yesterday, cutting a square pan cake into the shape of a diamond and sprinkling it with diamond-like dust. additionally, i envision cupcakes with yellow and green flowers on top of them to correspond with the lyrics "cell0phane flowers of yellow and green, towering over your head..." but i didn't have the energy or time to make those as well! as far as the cake, well it looked just ok. trav enjoyed it and i even gave her a couple tiny bites that she thoroughly enjoyed as well. however, part of me wants to blow it out and forget the homemade cake by mom, and order a really awesome one from a local bakery. normally i'm pretty practical and frugal, but i think, this babe of mine only turns one once and i might just indulge my whim and order an expensive, elaborate cake. why the heck not? i know this bday is more for us anyway. maybe having an awesome cake to focus on will help me block the tears that are bound to fall on that day!
